The Story of the 51 Shaktipeeths

To understand why ambaji holds such significance, we have to go back to one of the most beautiful and powerful stories in Hindu tradition - the story of Sati and Shiva.

According to traditional belief, Goddess Sati was deeply devoted to Lord Shiva. After the tragic events surrounding her father’s yajna, Sati gave up her body.

Overcome with grief, Lord Shiva carried her body across the universe, To restore balance, Lord Vishnu used his Sudarshan Chakra, and the sacred places associated with parts of Sati’s body became known as Shaktipeeths sacred seats of the Divine Feminine.

Ambaji is traditionally counted among these sacred sites, with the tradition associating the place with Sati’s heart, And that gives Ambaji a meaning that goes beyond geography. It is a place connected with the heart of Shakti.
